LAST ENTRY FOR PBEY 3102

For the last entry, we were posted some questions to reflect on. Below is my opinion regarding the whole course:

1. What do you like about blogging?

Through Blogging, we can express our thoughts; we are given the freedom to discuss about what we think of certain issues and also discuss what we have learned in the class. Blogging provide us the chance to reflect on my learning process.

2. What you do not like about blogging?

I am fine with blogging as what I have stated above, it provides a chance for us to reflect on what we have learned in the class each week. The only difficult thing is the part where I need to design and decorate the blog as attractive as possible. That’s my weakness.

3. What have you gained from blogging e.g. Language skills, improved fluency, critical thinking, improved thought processes, technology skills etc. How?

Certainly blogging helps to improve my language proficiency. This is because we get used to a language when we are writing it frequently. This happens in this course as we are required to update our blog once very week. Besides, it also helps to sharpen our thinking skills as we need to reflect on what we have learnt in the class critically when we are writing the blog. Also on the technological skills, through blogging, I learned how to upload, design and decorate a blog.

4. What do you like about this course?

Same as the name of the course, it is very resourceful. We are taught on how to use materials from the internet and adapt them into the suitable teaching aids that can be used in the teaching and learning process in the classroom.

5. What you do not like about this course?

Too much of workload.

6. What have you learnt from this course?

We have learnt a lot of technological skills in this course such as how to download song and video, or certain software, learn about photo editing, audio editing, video editing etc. We are exposed to a variety of sottwares such as moyea downloader, keepvid, Ulead, etc. All these are very beneficial.

7. What have you learnt from this course that you did not expect to?

I have never expected that we are learning all the technological skills before I attended this course. This is because I thought we will just be having some cut and paste scrapbook activity as teaching aids instead of using all kinds of softwares to create the teaching aids to be used in the class.

8. What have u expected but do not learn from this course?

About cutting and pasting which involves hands-on activities or games.

9. Comments regarding modules:

1) Internet and computing skills

a. What do you like about this module?

We are introduced to all kinds of internet websites such as 4shared.com, gif animated cartoons etc. It widens my perspectives which make me realize that there are actually a lot of websites that we can use to create teaching aids.

b. What do you not like about this module?

Too many resources given. Sometimes cannot remember which one is the most applicable in the primary school context.

c. What do you like about the task given for this module?

We can search for different websites that can be incorporate into the lesson plan.

d. What do you not like about the task given for this module?

The resources that can be used to suit our topic or learning objectives are very limited, thus, caused difficulties when we need the most suitable one from the internet.

e. What are the specific skills that you learn in this module?

We can use different software to download a video. For example, we can use either moyea downloader or realplayer to download the video from Youtube.

f. How the skills learnt in this module can help in the making and choosing of teaching aids for the ELT classroom?

We can use the skills to search for the things that we want easily as we were

introduced to a variety of softwares as well as websites.

2) Photo Editing

a. What do you like about this module?

We can edit on different kind of pictures. We can edit the picture based on our own preferences.

b. What do you not like about this module?

Too much of editing work for the module.

c. What do you like about the task given for this module?

We can edit the pictures to suit our lesson which is planned to carry out in the classroom according to the pupils’ level. For example, we should make the picture to be very colourful, clear and attractive in order to capture the pupils’ attention.

d. What do you not like about the task given for this module?

The picture edited does not really bring out the purpose of the task effectively.

They may not be suitable to be used as teaching aids for primary school pupils.

e. What are the specific skills that you learn in this module?

Learned how to edit a picture by using different types of software such as photoshop cs3 and photoscape etc.

f. How the skills learnt in this module can help in the making and choosing of teaching aids for the ELT classroom?

Edit the pictures so that they are suitable to be used in the classroom.

3) Audio Editing Skills

a. What do you like about this module?

We know how to edit audio and convert them into different formats. We learned how to make the audio nicer by putting in fade in and fade out etc.

b. What do you not like about this module?

Too much of skills included. Have to explore one by one and it is very time consuming.

c. What do you like about the task given for this module?

We can choose our own song to be edited. Will feel contented after I have completed editing one song. Feel like the song edited is my copyright. We can even convert the song into the format that we want and save them as our ringtone in our handphone.

d. What do you not like about the task given for this module?

Does not know that there are so much of skills in editing a song. As I forgot to keep the project As, I keep editing the same song for more than two times.

e. What are the specific skills that you learn in this module?

Learn how to edit songs and also making them a better quality such as cutting off the background noises in the song etc.

f. How the skills learnt in this module can help in the making and choosing of teaching aids for the ELT classroom?

Song is very appealing for young learners. Thus, we can use this skill to edit the song that suits the lesson. For example, we can always edit the song to a shorter one which can be used during the closure part before the lesson ends.

4) Video Editing Skills

a. What do you like about this module?

We learn how to create and edit a video using window movie maker. For example, we can enliven the pictures by making them into a video which is accompanied by songs etc.

b. What do you not like about this module?

It is a bit tedious as we have to find a variety of pictures to be used for creating a video.

c. What do you like about the task given for this module?

We can create our own video to bring out the message that we would like to deliver to the pupils.

d. What do you not like about the task given for this module?

In creating a video, we have to be very careful in selecting the songs, and picture in order to bring out the message effectively to the pupils.

e. What are the specific skills that you learn in this module?

Creating and editing video using Window Movie Maker.

f. How the skills learnt in this module can help in the making and choosing of teaching aids for the ELT classroom?

Young kids love to watch video as it brings out the images clearer to the pupils instead of having the teacher talking in front of the classroom all the time. Pupils learn faster through visualize. Besides, it helps to lower their affective filter as well. Thus, video editing is ideal to be made as teaching aids.

5) Software for ELT

a. What do you like about this module?

We can design and produce a variety of brochure, banner, flyers, and advertisement based on our preference by using Microsoft Office Puiblisher.

b. What do you not like about this module?

It is a bit tedious as too much of things included in one module.

c. What do you like about the task given for this module?

We are allowed to have an imaginary kindergarten where we need to come out and produce all sorts of things such as banners, advertisement, business card, etc in order to promote our kindergarten.

d. What do you not like about the task given for this module?

Limited ability in coming out with a very high quality and standard one.

e. What are the specific skills that you learn in this module?

Learn a variety of skills in producing a variety of products which helps to promote a project.

f. How the skills learnt in this module can help in the making and choosing of teaching aids for the ELT classroom?

We can design and put in the details that we want in order to meet the lesson’s language focus, learning objectives as well as the pupils’ learning ability.

10. If you can change anything about this course, state what is and elaborate?

It will be better if we are given more time to complete all the modules and tasks so that we can have more time to explore on what we have learned more thoroughly in order o have a deeper learning process. Overall, I am fine with everything as we have indeed learnt a lot of things from this course. I would say all of us have becoming a very RESOURCEFUL person after attending this course.

My rate for computing and technological skills before attending this course is 3 and after attending this course is 7.5.

End of the course

Well, finally, we have come to the end of the course.
Today is a bit different from the previous classes as we have to sit for a TEST. We are tested on all the knowledge that we have gained throughout the whole course.
Well, the test is really testing on what we have learn as we are required to put ourselves in the teachers' shoes in order to come out with an effective teaching aids by using technology for the children. we are required to write on how we can include technology as well as all the skills that we have learn such as audio editing, video editing etc. with all these skills, we are able to make the teaching and learning process to be more interesting as well as capture the children's attention throughout the whole lesson.
Well, it is indeed a good test in order for all of us to reflect on what we have learnt from this course. I would say, it is great!!! =p

Last Class

.. Wow, that's fast. we have come to the end of our semester.
As usual we are having our class today, we are shown by Pn Foziah on the videos that we have created. We can see that everyone have put in their very best and hard effort in producing the videos. Some use the theme of environmental issue, saving the extinct animals, love, friendship, holiday etc. A big clap to all of us. I see there is potential in each of us in becoming a production manager. Well, that's good news to be hear, right? hehe...
Hmm... I would say this course has enable us to learn a lot of things. We are taught to fully utilise the technology. we are taught on how to edit pictures in photoshop, how to create and edit video by using window movie maker, how to edit and cut song using audacity.

Well, I would say that all of these are really fun as we can use all these knowledge learnt to be applied in the teaching and learning process in the classroom in the future. With these, we believe we will be able to come out with very interesting, attractive and effective teaching aids in the classroom.

Video Editing

Here comes another week. Today we are asked to submit our task 2-e-Book, task 3-the lesson plan, and also module 2. Then we work on our video editing with our partner.

My theme for the video is mother nature which is basically about the environmental issues that we have in our daily life nowadays. We thought the video is good enough as we have arranged the pictures in sequences which starts from the beautiful environment that we have had before the disruption of the earth. we then present the video by inserting the pictures of how human beings begin to destroy the mother nature by causing land, water, and air pollution which subsequently causes natural disaster such as tornado, tsunami, earthquake, volcano eruption etc to happen. There, we tell the story by using the pictures and make them into a video. We have too, inserted the next part where we helps to heal the world, heal our mother nature by doing and joining meaningful activities such as planting trees, collecting rubbish and recycling etc. These brings out clear image to the pupils on the awareness of environmental issues as well as the part and the role that we should play to help our world. However, when we shown to Mdm Foziah about our video, she said it should be personalised which means that we ourselves should be inside the pictures in order to bring out the message to the pupils. We must too, remember that we as, teachers should be aware that we are the role model. Therefore, we should capture our own picture and put them into the video in order to persuade the pupils in putting words into actions.

Hence, we are trying to edit by putting our pictures into the video to make it more realistic as well as making it more effective in bringing the awareness to the pupils. we are still editing on it.
Hopefully, it will be a better and a more effective one.
